This sandwich pays tribute to the classic Pinoy dish that's everyone's favorite. For added crunch and flavor, serve it with a colorful side of pickled veggies

Makes 4 sandwiches Prep Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Bistek sandwich ingredients

For the marinade: 1/2 cup soy sauce. Juice from 10 pieces calamansi. ground black pepper, to taste. 1 kilo beef sirloin, thinly sliced

For the pickled vegetables: 1/3 cup rice vinegar. 1 and 2/3 cups water. 2 teaspoons salt. 1/2 cup sugar. 1 carrot, thinly sliced. 1 radish, thinly sliced. 1 stalk celery, thinly sliced. 3 pieces red radish, thinly sliced. oil for frying. 400 grams white onions, thinly sliced. 300 grams red onions, thinly sliced. 4 pieces ciabatta or mini baguettes

Bistek sandwich with pickled vegetables recipe: 1- Make the marinade: Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Marinate beef for at least 1 hour. 2- Make the pickled vegetables: In a pot, combine vinegar, water, salt and sugar. Simmer until salt and sugar have completely dissolved. Let cool. Add vegetables and marinate in the mixture for 1 hour. Drain. 3- Drain beef and set aside marinade. In a frying pan set on high heat, heat oil and sear beef for 2 minutes on each side. 4- Turn down heat. Pour in the beef marinade and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust Seasoning to taste. 5- Heat oil in a medium pot. Deep- fry white onions until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Set aside. 6- Heat a bit of a oil in another frying pan. Caramelize red onion over low heat about 15 minutes. 7- Assemble the sandwiches: Place beef on ciabatta bread. Top with caramelized red onions. And fried white onions. Serve with pickled vegetables on the side. Repeat with remaining ingredients. By then, the Bistek sandwich with pickled vegetables is ready
